PLUCK YOU!!

All hail the mighty brow. Folks, I ask you: what’s not to love about these shaggy forehead caterpillars? Let’s rack them up:

1. Sweat-B-Gone. Your shiny, slippery forehead is the perfect runway for sweat to launch straight into your eyes, stinging & blinding you as you go about shoveling the driveway. Good thing your perfectly shaped eyebrows are there, staunch & hairy defenders of the eyeball, whisking away sweat and keeping you seeing.

2. Don’t look ridiculous. If you had no eyebrows, you’d sort of look like the victim of a frat hazing that went too far.

3. Quiet talk. They say that 95% of all communication is non-verbal. You know, it’s less what you say, more how you say it. It’s your dress, your walk, your eyes, & the way you move your body. And if that’s true, what body prop comes in handier for this quiet talk than your ol’ eyebrows? Pop them up to show surprise, squint them tightly to show you ain’t happy, & maybe furrow one slightly to show you’re a bit confused. Eyebrows can help you say so much with so little. Although we may often forget it, our eyebrows are rocking the forehead from the day we’re born to the day we die. They soldier on in the sun, sleet, wind, & rain & need to look pretty doing it. They don’t take vacations & they don’t complain. So let’s give it up for our eyebrows, ladies & gentlemen. Let’s give it up for dry eyes. Let’s give it up for showing emotion. Let’s give it up for not looking ridiculous.
(From The eBook of Awesome by Neil Pasricha)

I used to have great eyebrows until my dermatologist did some work on my face.  My eyebrows faded & became almost invisible.  I now have to use eyebrow pencil but I try to keep them natural looking.

Me (60+ years ago)

I told my friend she drew her eyebrows on too high.
She looked surprised!!

Some people make do with one eyebrow (& a mustache):

While other's eyebrows may be a tad too thick:

And some regular cartoons:

Why don't bald guys with bushy eyebrows just let them grow out & then comb them back?----fishducky

  1. I'm disappointed with my eyebrows. they're not too bad, but they used to be fabulous, (just like you 60+ years ago what a great picture!) Then someone told me they were too thick and I should pluck and neaten. Well, six months later I tossed away the tweezers and waited for the brows to grow back. Still waiting.
I think old me with bushy unruly eyebrows should do something about them, maybe braid them? Or at least trim them.
I think finding older friends is easier than walking about looking perpetually surprised.

    1. I think braiding them is a great idea; cornrows maybe?

  2. You were and are a beauty.
I used to have more eyebrows too, but they thin out. Still, I pluck. It could be worse - we could look like Andy Rooney.

  3. I used to have very... exuberant... eyebrows when I was young. WAY too exuberant. Kinda like one big eyebrow. Now I rarely have to pluck, except for the occasional outta control long-assed blonde hair that'll show up between my eyes for no good reason. Old age and intrusive facial hair must go hand-in-hand. (I NEVER imagined I'd have "stubble" on my face!)

    1. I no longer have to shave my legs or armpits, which gives me time to take care of my newfound beard & mustache!!

  4. Haha, the memes made me laugh. Both my daughters are into power brows. Personally I don't even notice my own. Now I will. :D

  5. Hum, don't know how I missed this post. I use to have nice thick ones like you had. Now days they are just a memory and have been replaced by wispy grey ones. Sigh.

  6. I missed this post too! It's a conspiracy, I tell you!

I watch a show called Impractical Jokers. One of the guys lost the competition, and the punishment was having his eyebrows shaved off. He was a scary sight, even with them drawn on.
