SOME ADS THEY DON'T USE ANYMORE

If my husband bought me a coffee maker or a toaster for Christmas, he'd be toast!!  Sure, I'd like it if he bought them for me us but just because we'd like them, not for a special occasion.

Why do you suppose these ads went out of favor?
Could it be because they were misogynistic, racist, unhealthy, dangerous
or just plain stupid?

(Most ads from http://frank151.com/seriously-disturbing-vintage-advertisements)

Copy this link to see a 2005 commercial for Carl's Jr
that never should have been aired.
It should be the first one.

A cop pulled me over and said, "Papers."
I turned to him and said, "Scissors. I win!" and then drove away----fishducky

  1. Oh dear.
For some reason not all the ads or cartoons showed today, but those which did? Shudder.
My partner got me an iron for my birthday one year. Big mistake. And not one he has made since.

  2. Some of those old ads are downright horrifying, now that we know better.
Cola for babies? Sadly I once knew a mum who did just that, coke in their bottles if they cried when out shopping, those kids were having rotten baby teeth removed before they even started school.

    1. I used to be an assistant for a children's dentist; the condition of some kid's mouths was frightening!!

  3. I run across ads while researching through archived newspapers and smile at how much society has changed, some of these really made me laugh while others you found had me shaking my head.

I can just imagine the result of me bringing Cindy a toaster for Christmas....

  4. Some of those vintage advertisements don't hold up well and today seem quite offensive, like the man with his foot on the rug made out of his wife.

  5. Hard to believe those ads came mostly from my generation. They were horrible. Low birth weight babies being a positive staggered me.

  6. This looks like a cool post that I haven't had time to read yet. Just wanted to let you know that Graham responded to your email. He left a comment on the airplane post. Thank you so much for contacting him.

  7. Reading some comments above, I guess this is not a cool post. That's what you get for rushing. I will try to get back to it later though.

  8. Not quite sure who the Little Katie Chewing Tobacco was advertising to! And the baby with the safety razor was horrifying! Which is not to imply that I found the other ads acceptable.
